The Leather Restoration Process
When leather is beyond cleaning we can offer a full leather restoration service that completely renovates the pigment & finish of your leather. This process resembles factory quality and therefore gives as many years of use, in terms of the leather bit of your furniture, as with brand new leather. The leather pigment restoration process consists of the following steps:
- Vacuum cleaning: leather is thoroughly vacuum cleaned to remove all dry soils, debris & foodstuff accumulated over time
- Leather is thoroughly cleaned using a mild trade grade detergent based fluid specifically made for leather. This is to ensure all dirt and grime is removed completely before we proceed with the restoration
- Dye transfer & various stains are given closer attention
- Alcohol based cleaning agent is applied to ensure leather is detergent free
- Repairs are carried out i.e. cuts, burns, scratches, punches etc.
- Pigment application: 2-3 coats of pigment are applied to the leather using rollers and air brush
- Finish application: 2 coats of finish are applied to “seal” the pigments and protect against premature wear
- 24 hour cure time is essential for pigment & finish to bond firmly to the leather

We carried out an aniline leather restoration service for a lovely couple in Brightlingsea, Essex. The sofa in the photos below is 30 years old and our customer didn’t want to see it go as it had a sentimental value to him. They asked us to restore it as it had lost colour and become very dry and rough to touch.
The restoration process started with vacuum cleaning followed by thorough cleaning using specialist aniline leather products designed to remove years worth of dirt and grime build up. The dark patches in the contact areas (grease build up) were particularly challenging so we had to do multiple applications of a specialist product (the white foamy stuff on the photos below) to draw out the grease.
Once grease was gone we proceeded with the aniline dye doing 3 applications to ensure even, sufficient coverage. We will measure up all areas to be cleaned, establish the type of your carpet and its installation and the level of soiling.
