The House Dust Mite: Main Reasons For Asthma, Allergies And Eczema
Dust mites are tiny organisms (up to 0.3 mm) with eight legs, distantly related to spiders. You can’t see them with the naked eye. Other than triggering allergy and asthma symptoms, they don’t cause any harm. They like to live in areas that are warm and humid and can be found in many homes. In fact, you can hardly find a home without them. Dust Mites live for 3-4 months with females laying 25 to 50 eggs, with a new generation produced every three weeks! Some people are allergic to dust mites’ decayed bodies and faecal material, which become components of airborne household dust.
What is the Dust Mite’s Residence
Beds are a prime habitat, a typical mattress may have anywhere from 100,000 to 10 million mites inside. Mites prefer warm, moist surroundings such as the inside of a mattress when someone is on it. Their favourite food is dander (human skin flakes). Bedroom carpeting and household upholstery usually support high mite populations.
Dust Mite Related Problems
Estimates are that dust mites may be a factor in 50-80% of asthma cases, as well as in countless cases of eczema, hay fever, and other allergic ailments. The main area of concern is in very young children growing up in environments where there’s high dust mite exposure — or other types of allergen exposure. There is some evidence that if an infant or a young child grows up where there’s a high exposure to sensitizing substances, he or she will be more likely to develop allergy problems, asthma or both.

Drying times are vastly dependant on the type of your carpets and the weather. There are a few more factors that affect drying times i.e. how soiled the carpet was (the more soiled your carpet the more cleaning solution we need to use and therefore the drying times will be longer), ability / inability to keep the windows open etc. Roughly it takes anywhere between 4-12 hours for carpets to dry completely.
Today’s cleaning products for carpet and upholstery cleaning are made in a way that they have very little effect on the environment if at all. In some instances, especially where stain removal is involved, we might have to use stronger chemicals to do the job right. However, we always advise our clients on what products are to be used for each individual job we undertake, so the final decision is theirs. We also have an eco-friendly line, where the products used are 100% environment-friendly, children, pet and allergy sufferers-friendly and are 100% biodegradable as well.
